So, the 4th question is “How do you find the time to write while also working full time and handling family? ”

1) Author #1 : Chloe S. Flanagan

It can be tough, but my best tools are a daily commute and dictation applications for my smartphone. This allows me to record my thoughts and stories while driving.

I am lucky to be one of those rare early birds. I do most of my writing at 5 AM and sometimes even on the subway on my way to work. I always say I’ll write in the evening or on weekends but that rarely happens.

I work as an archaeologist which means I travel a lot, so I don’t always have the distractions of home life. I don’t have children, but I do take care of my parents who. Honestly, I just make the time. I get up at 5:30 or 6 every morning, write until I have to work or midmorning if it’s a day off. Then I switch to chores and admin stuff.

5) Author #5: Erin Lynne 

What works best for me is word count goals. Every Sunday, I set a goal for myself of how many words I need to write that week. It changes based off how hectic my schedule is with my 9-5 job and family time.

6) Author #6: Victoria Grant

This doesn’t apply to me, as I’m truly fortunate to be a full-time author. I wasn’t blessed with children, but I do have nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews who often visit, which I love!

I’m still trying to get a handle on that one! LOL.

8) Author #8: Jennifer Carole Lewis

I’ve often wished for a TARDIS or Time Turner to give me more time during the day.  I only get short bursts of time to write (usually while waiting for my kids at a lesson) and have had to experiment to find ways to increase my word counts.

9) Author #9: Amber Daulton

I usually wake up at about seven in the morning and write/edit until about five pm. At the moment, I don’t have children or an out-of-the-house job, so I’m always busy writing. My husband is the cook in the household, so luckily I don’t have to worry about fixing my meals.

It was very difficult as I was also doing a bachelor degree and caring for two adults, but the writing gave me so much pleasure and relief from the stress.

It’s definitely a challenge trying to muster up enough energy after a day of work, commuting, and family responsibilities, but I’m working more on setting aside dedicated writing time in my schedule. Even if that includes just twenty to thirty minutes of getting words out on my latest project, every bit matters.

So, the 3rd question is “When did you start writing?”

1) Author #1 : Chloe S. Flanagan

It feels like I’ve been writing in my head for as long as I can remember. But I didn’t start putting all that chatter down on paper until about two years ago. 

2) Author #2: Olena Kagui

I’ve been writing short, mostly visual stories since I was seven years old! I began writing the first chapters of books I would never finish in middle school. I finally started writing my first real novel five years ago!

3) Author #3: Angela Breen

Like most authors, I started when I was young, in elementary school. But I started looking at writing as a profession in 2011 and truly chasing the dream in 2015 under a different pen name. 

4) Author #4: Victoria Spencer

My first series was The Adventures of Heidi Bear when I was about 7. I finished all 12 of the stories by 10. I first started writing with the aim to publish when I was thirteen.

5) Author #5: Erin Lynne 

Writing is something I always loved, even if it was a school assignment (total nerd alert). However, I didn’t start my first romance novel until I was 22. It took me over TEN years to finally follow my dream and go down the publishing path.

I started writing stories when I was six. I’ve always loved to write; English and Creative Writing were my best subjects in school, so I naturally gravitated to write the stories I love to read.

I began writing stories at the age of nine. I’ve been focused on being a writer ever since.

8) Author #8: Jennifer Carole Lewis

I’ve been telling stories for a long time, both my own and fanfic inspired, but I started seriously pursuing a writing career in 2012.  My first book was published in January of 2015.

9) Author #9: Amber Daulton

I read my first romance book when I was 12 after I snuck a Harlequin paperback out of my mom’s bedroom. After that, I wanted to write my own story about two people (or three!) falling in love.  Since then, I’ve been writing and learning the craft, and finally contracted my first story at age 26.

At the ripe age of 14, just didn’t do anything about it until 2017.

11) Author #11: Nicole Highland

I started writing around late grade school/early junior high, primarily writing poetry as a way of expressing myself.

12) Author #12: Renata Sterling

I started writing when I was a child, around ten or eleven years old. But I only started taking it more seriously since 2014 when I learned about the option of self-publishing.

So, the 2nd question is “What is your choice: traditional publishing or self-publishing?”

1) Author #1 : Chloe S. Flanagan

I have opted for self-publishing because it allows me freedom and flexibility.

2) Author #2: Olena Kagui

There are benefits to both! As a new writer I prefer to publish traditionally while I learn more about this. Eventually, I would love to try out self-publishing!

3) Author #3: Angela Breen

As part of an indie press, I do a little bit of everything. Personally, I think Indie Publishing is the way to go. I know there’s still a bit of a stigma around self-publishing but it’s a smart business decision. BUT I also understand wanting someone to help you along the way which is why we created Amphibian Press. To offer services as well as a trusted way to get their books into the world. 

4) Author #4: Victoria Spencer

Depends on the project, but I tend to prefer the freedom of indie publishing since I write marginalized characters.

5) Author #5: Erin Lynne 

Great question because I am self-publishing. For me, this has been the right choice because I am able to have more control over my work (from the storyline to cover selection).

Right now, I’m enjoying my journey self-publishing, but every author is different. There’s no right or wrong way, I support which ever approach works for the author to get the story published.

7) Author #7: Marie Lavender

I think a lot of what I do anyway would fall under the indie category, so probably publishing on my own would be less of a hassle. However, I can see the benefits of having a publisher, at least being under a brand of sorts.

8) Author #8: Jennifer Carole Lewis

I’m a hybrid author with an indie-published paranormal romance series and a new romantic suspense series coming out in July with a small press, Soul Mate Publishing. I think both routes offer advantages so it’s important for each author to find what works best for them individually.

9) Author #9: Amber Daulton

I’m traditionally published with small presses right now, but I’ve recently received my rights back to two novellas, so I plan on self-pubbing them soon. I like writing for small presses because they accept a broad range of stories. In time, I would like to land a contract with an agent and/or a major publishing house.

My own personal choice was to self-publish for a number of reasons, most notably so I could be in complete control of every aspect of the process.

I am currently a self-published author and definitely enjoy and appreciate it.  But I would also love being a hybrid author, both traditionally and self-published if that option became available in the future.

So, the 1st question is “What is your favorite trope in romance?”

1) Author #1 : Chloe S. Flanagan

I love the charm and awkward forced closeness of the fake relationship trope. These stories have the potential to be hilarious or painful, but also sweet and heartwarming.

2) Author #2: Olena Kagui

This is a tough question. Although it’s overused, I do enjoy the anti-hero trope just because there’s something so appealing about falling in love with someone for the wrong reasons. It may be cliche but no matter how many books like this I read, I am always hooked!

3) Author #3: Angela Breen

I like the classic hate/disdain to love. Like you see in Jane Austin’s Pride & Prejudice. I like the idea that taking the time to understand people can make them grow on you. Whether in friendship or in a romantic way.

4) Author #4: Victoria Spencer

I’m a huge fan of second-chance romances and enemies-to-lovers! I’ve lived through a few second-chances myself and I adore the angst and drama of it all!

5) Author #5: Erin Lynne 

Such a hard question because this depends on my mood. Lately I have been into the Enemies to Lovers trope because I love the push and pull of emotions between the characters, and of course, the passion! 

6) Author #6: Victoria Grant

Enemies to Lovers. I adore having my main characters get into spirited arguments because this deepens their emotions and increases the tension between them. It also gets them to view each other in a different and unsettling way. These are always such fun to write and read.

Second chances or a friends-to-lovers theme.

8) Author #8: Jennifer Carole Lewis

I love a good Alpha Protector story, but also enjoy Forced Proximity/Survival Situations and Mistaken Identity stories. I adore newly met couples vs the world type adventures.

I don’t really have one, but I do seem to write a lot about second chances. You know the drill: the H/h fell in love years ago, broke up due to a misunderstanding, and reunite when they are finally strong enough to chase after their dreams.

 Suspense/erotic

I absolutely love a good second-chance romance story. Even though things didn’t work the first time around, it’s so satisfying to see two characters finally receive their HEA.

I seem to gravitate more toward the friends to lovers romance trope than anything else.
