When you talked about childhood, happiness and youth
And I saw through your poet’s eyes an unvarnished truth
That joy and wisdom can come from the simplest things
Sweet puppy licks, a mother’s hug and a heart which sings
Growing older doesn’t have to bring despair or lasting pain
If we try, we can find serenity in the sunshine and the rain
